Sultan Elementary School
The current Sultan Elementary School will have cosmetic updates to remove the portable bathrooms and portable classrooms to reconfigure the campus to serve grades 5-6.
The estimated costs for this project is $2,658,486.
Refresh the school & remove the portables
With minimal cosmetic and other functional upgrades, the portables will be removed and the campus reconfigured to serve grades 5 & 6 only.
Once the refresh & remodel is complete, the old SES will turn into a campus for grades 5-6
The refreshed school will be able to accommodate up to 416 5th and 6th graders - making much needed space at the PK-4 campuses at the new SES & GBE.
There should be more than adequate space at this new 5-6 campus, without the need for portables!
Funded work at the old SES opens up more space at Sultan Middle School
Although no work at SMS is funded through this bond, the work done at the other campuses will open up space for the incoming wave of younger children.
The current enrollment figures show that SMS is right at capacity for this school year, but projections balloon in the coming years.
Anyone who has been in the hallways during passing period at SMS knows how crowded it is, even "at capacity". Adding 100+ more students would be pushing the facilities beyond reason.
Smart reorganization of the campuses makes the most use out of existing facilities.
As you can see from the 7-8 student enrollment figures,
reorganizing the grade structures at the different campuses opens up more than adequate space for Middle Schoolers.
It was important to the Citizen's Facility Advisory Committee to keep the costs to the taxpayers of managing the student population explosion as low as possible. This was achieved by an efficient use of the resources we currently have.
By rearranging the campuses, they were able to more evenly distribute the student population with as little new construction as possible.
